The interpreter provides sign language interpreting services to University students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a variety of settings both on and off campus. This position requires evening and occasional weekend work. Demonstrates ability to interact positively with people from diverse communities. 

Responsibilities/Duties:
● Provide effective interpreting services to the University community at-large in a variety of situations including but not limited to: undergraduate, graduate & professional school courses, meetings, medical, dental, mental health appointments, commencements, University tours, and professional travel, as well as preparing for these assignments to ensure effective service delivery.
● Adhere to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.
● Provide timely responses to office communications.
● Provide flexibility in scheduling, accommodating evenings and weekends, on-call shifts, and overtime when necessary. This position requires occasional overtime work.
● Stay current on issues relevant to the interpreting profession as well as issues among the cultural communities the profession serves; use this information to promote learning opportunities with and for colleagues.
● Actively support the work of Interpreting-Captioning Unit (ICU), DRC, and/or Office for Equity and Diversity (OED) by participating in meetings, committees, and projects as able.
● Follow all University, DRC, and ICU policies and procedures.
● Provide mentoring support for peers and interns as well as seek mentoring support within the unit.
● Promote disability self-advocacy, pride, community, universal design, responsibility, dignity, equity, independence, and the fostering of multicultural community.
● Work actively to create a positive and productive work environment.
● Be an effective spokesperson for the ICU and DRC both inside and outside ICU and DRC.
● Demonstrate a  dedication to continuous improvement.
● Other duties as assigned which are consistent with the mission of the DRC and/or the OED.

Salary: $26.20/hr - $33.40/hr, with an additional 27.8% in the form of benefits.

Essential Qualifications:
● Have and maintain Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) membership (national) and membership in at least one affiliate chapter of RID
● Demonstrated knowledge in, and an ongoing commitment to, working effectively with and across diverse communities: including people of color, underrepresented groups and new immigrant populations; American Indians; people with both apparent and non-apparent disabilities; women; people of various gender and sexual identities and expressions; and first-generation students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds

Selection Criteria:
● Completion of interpreter education program strongly preferred
● Current national certification strongly preferred
● Two years experience providing interpreting services, preferably in a postsecondary setting or completion of sign language interpreter internship at the University of Minnesota strongly preferred
