PGY1 Pharmacy & PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership
Session:
Tuesday PM
Required Education:
PharmD
The PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. The PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency provides residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy.
Our goal with the PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak prepares candidates for a mid-level pharmacy administration position immediately upon completion of the program, with an eventual position as a director of pharmacy or system role . The resident will acquire advanced skills in management and development, communication, resource management, fiscal management, regulatory compliance, medication safety, and program development.
The ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital (formerly known as Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak Hospital) has been training pharmacy residents since 1977. Each year, the program accepts six traditional PGY1 residents into the program with the goal of developing the residents into confident and competent practitioners. There are 8 required learning experiences (Orientation, Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Drug Information, Integrated Practice Experience, Internal Medicine, Practice Management and Research) with numerous elective rotations available. The Integrated Practice Experience is a novel rotation where the resident is immersed within the unit-based practice model. Outpatient Clinic experiences include anticoagulation, diabetes including high risk diabetes, Hepatitis C, HIV, Specialty Pharmacy, and Discharge/Transitions of Care. An on-call program aids the resident in developing clinical confidence and autonomy while participating in code response, complex patient-specific drug information questions, inpatient alteplase for stroke, supratherapeutic toxicology level evaluation and anticoagulation teaching service activities. A...dditionally, the residents will serve as student preceptors throughout the year when rotation overlap occurs. A chief resident position, resident chair positions, advisor program, leadership development program and participation in the Wayne State University Teaching and Learning Curriculum are available.
