PGY1 Pharmacy Practice
The residency program at UTMB Health graduated its first resident in 1961 and has been accredited by ASHP since 1967. The primary focus of this PGY1 program is inpatient, acute-care health services. Residents will develop and enhance clinical practice skills through required and elective rotations, ranging from internal medicine to informatics to ambulatory care. Residents will also become proficient in a broad range of services structured to develop their individual strengths, as well as learn and participate in new endeavors. Residents will expand teaching skills by interacting with students from multiple colleges of pharmacy. Residency projects are presented as platform presentations at a regional residency conference.
This program has 4 open positions.
PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency
The PGY1/PGY2, combined Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) Residency at UTMB Health, is a two-year program designed to train pharmacists who are interested in becoming well-rounded practice managers and leaders in all areas of health-system pharmacy. This program will enable residents to assume high-level pharmacy practice managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities. It provides residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete the PGY2 HSPAL residency are prepared for management/supervisory roles in various health-system pharmacy practice areas.
Employment is contingent on a successful UTMB Health security clearance and pre-employment drug screen. Eligibility to work in the United States is required. A PharmD degree from an ACPE-accredited institution is required before the residency’s start date.
UTMB Health is a Houston-area, four-institution health system and is home to the oldest medical school in Texas.
