SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Takes radiologic films or other scans of various portions of the body to assist in the detection of foreign bodies and the diagnosis of diseases and injuries. To conduct directed scientific studies and research in support of a principal investigator's research.

Clinical IR - Representative Responsibilities
Patient Care - Procedures and Exams - Prepare patients, parents and/or families for procedures/examinations physically and/or psychologically. Conduct procedures/examinations following protocol/guidelines as directed. May obtain, review, bring together, and/or facilitate the exchange of patient information. Is considered an expert at specialized exams and using problem solving skills to ensure image optimization through application of advanced techniques.
Customer Service - Patient - Act as a customer advocate and strive to better meet the needs of, and to support, patients and/or families. Utilize a customer focus to complete assignments and/or interact with customers in a courteous, attentive and conscientious manner. Respond quickly to parent requests and concerns using problem solving skills to resolve situations. Provide appropriate education/information to patients and/or families.
Communication - Patient - Communicate with patient, families and employees in courteous manner. Respond promptly to requests by patients, families and employees. Provide information concerning patients that are admitted to, referred to/from, transferred to/from, or discharged from home unit. Provide emotional support to families as needed. Utilizes effective communication techniques to identify problems. Works toward creative solutions with help of manager.
Serve as a Resource - Demonstrate advanced competence in specific knowledge, skills and behaviors. Effectively communicate with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience, and skills; stay abreast of changes in key systems; serve as an expert resource to the department, and/or hospital in specific area(s). Educates and orients by teaching peers, students, residents and fellows the skills necessary to independently perform radiography exams. Provides evaluative feedback to manager throughout training process. Consistently reports and documents equipment malfunctions making necessary adjustments or repairs as able. Provides additional support to facilitate patient care in such situations.
Process Improvement - Identify, lead, and direct process/quality improvement/assurance activities. Measure and present results of improvement efforts and ongoing performance measures of processes. In collaboration with appropriate individuals, develop strategic plans for improvement. May manage activities such as training and audits which support process improvement initiatives/activities. May participate on process improvement team(s).
IR Translational Lab - Representative Responsibilities
Lab Administration - Troubleshoot erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment. Maintain optimal protocol accuracy by conducting regular quality checks. Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment; order supplies from vendors and storeroom. Maintain stock of chemicals and solutions. Purchase and ensure proper handling and care of laboratory animals. Provide appropriate compliance checks as assigned and may be responsible for all internal record keeping with respect to compliance. Assist in imaging research intake process to ensure project feasibility and accuracy in estimates provided to principal investigators.
Train and Assist Personnel - Ensure staff has completed necessary training to work in the lab. Train others on procedures and techniques performed in the lab. Maintain an integral role in lab related meetings. Present information on research and lab work to others at meetings and seminars.
Coordinate and Conduct Research - Meet with researchers and vendors to discuss potential research projects. Maintain research protocols. Coordinate study logistics with Veterinary Services, Pharmacy, and etc. along with study staff. Perform research imaging procedures. Maintain accurate study logs to document procedures. Ensure images are transferred appropriately. Maintain relationships with researchers and vendors for study improvement and future project design.
Leadership - May act as a mentor to more junior staff, serve as the contact for resolution of complex issues, provide education, and guidance.
Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology or Equivalent
Registered ARRT (R)
Licensed by Ohio Department of Health within 30 days of eligibility
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Registered ARRT (VI) OR Registered ARRT (CI)
3 years of pediatric experience
