The PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency Program at Baptist Health South Florida is a 52-week pharmacy specialty-training program. It is designed to establish a foundation of infectious diseases knowledge and to develop the skills necessary to deliver high-level clinical care.
The goal of the program is to develop independent pharmacy practitioners to become integral members of the infectious diseases team. This specialty residency program builds upon the general competencies achieved during a PGY1 residency, expanding the ability of residents to provide care for complex infectious diseases in a variety of settings. The training is coordinated to allow residents to master each of the disease states established within the ASHP Practice Standards for PGY2 residency in infectious diseases. It empowers residents to function as independent practitioners with the ability to incorporate both knowledge and experience into the provision of patient care. Opportunities for teaching, research, quality improvement, and professional writing are integrated. Upon completion of this program, the graduating resident will be prepared to seek board certification in infectious diseases and will have the necessary expertise to exercise clinical and leadership abilities as an infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship clinical practitioner.
The PGY2 Infectious Diseases resident rotates throughout multiple sites within Baptist Health South Florida, including but not limited to, Baptist Hospital of Miami, Clinical Pharmacy Enterprise, Miami Cancer Institute, and South Miami Hospital.
Candidates for this residency must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy and Florida licensure (or eligible); in addition, they must have successfully completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency (certificate required). Applicants are required to submit the following documents: a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, official transcripts, and three letters of recommendation from professional references utilizing standard form required by PhORCAS™. Candidates must participate in the Resident Matching Program.
