The PGY2 Pediatric Specialty Residency at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital is a 12-month, ASHP-accredited program designed to foster the development of the clinical knowledge, research skills, and leadership experience necessary to provide comprehensive and high quality pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients. Pharmacists completing this program will have made great strides at earning professional credibility and be capable of functioning with a high level of maturity, professionalism, and expertise in their chosen pediatric pharmacy career path.
The PGY2 pharmacy residency in pediatrics is designed to build upon the foundation provided by completion of an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree program and an ASHP-accredited postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency program and contribute to the development of the clinical pharmacist as a specialist in pediatric pharmacy practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings.
Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pediatric pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with pediatric board certification. Groomed for leadership, pediatric pharmacy residency graduates can be expected to continue their pursuit of expertise in clinical practice or other advanced practice settings, serving as the ultimate resource for information about medications used in the care of children. In addition, graduates will possess advanced skills enabling them to identify the pharmacotherapy and medication-use training needs of other health care professionals caring for pediatric patients; to deliver effective training to those health care professionals; and to contribute to public health efforts for health improvement, wellness, and disease prevention.
