Walgreens and Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy are committed to the postgraduate training opportunity for pharmacists to enhance their skill set in the community and specialty pharmacy setting and provide care to underserved populations. The primary residency practice site is a community-based specialty pharmacy in Jacksonville, FL. The pharmacy teams service patients with many disease states including inflammatory conditions, oncology, transplant, and HIV.
The community pharmacists at this site works closely with providers, patients, and the community to provide optimal drug therapy for patients. Additionally, residents gain insights into management issues that can affect the implementation of patient care services in the community and specialty pharmacy setting.
The program is academically affiliated and supported, in part, by Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy. The pharmacist will complete a teaching certificate program and will assist in teaching opportunities and precepting experiences for the College of Pharmacy. This partnership allows the resident the opportunity to gain experiences in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services in ambulatory care clinics. Upon completion of this program, the resident will be fully prepared for a position within a community-based pharmacy practice site
Residency Activities
Provide personalized, comprehensive care to patients with complex conditions such as oncology, transplant, inflammatory disease, and HIV/AIDS
Assist in delivery of medication education to patients
Participate in ambulatory care clinic rotations
Perform medication therapy management
Pharmacist-administered immunizations
Perform patient centered dispensing
Participate in community service events
Design, conduct, and present a practice based residency project at a professional conference
Develop relationship skills needed in Walgreens community-based specialty pharmacy
Educate providers and payers on community-based specialty services
Development of collaborative programs to improve patient n adherence and outcomes
Enhance existing patient care programs
Complete a Teaching Certificate Program
Serve as preceptor and instructor to pharmacy students at the site and college of pharmacy

Residents are eligible for Paid Time Off (PTO). Residents may accrue approximately 10 days depending on average hours worked and time in position.
Candidate Requirements
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy
Florida pharmacist license within 90 days of the start of the residency program
