University Health, in collaboration with The University of Texas College of Pharmacy and the University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy, is pleased to offer a Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) Community-Based Pharmacy Residency (ASHP-Accreditation pending) position for July 1 – June 30 of the upcoming residency year. This 12-month residency is designed to provide a robust training environment for individuals interested in developing clinical competency in the areas of ambulatory care and community-based pharmacy practice. This program has a unique focus on practicing transitions of care and ambulatory care within different settings including community, primary care, and specialty clinics, such as rheumatology. Candidates must have received a PharmD degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and have a strong desire to strengthen clinical, academic, research, and leadership skills in pharmacy practice.
As full-time employees of University Health, residents receive a competitive annual stipend of $57,000 plus excellent employee benefits. Residents are also appointed as Clinical Instructors with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy.
The University Health PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program offers a supportive training environment that will expose residents to providing patient-centered care in a variety of clinical practice settings to meet the needs of a diverse patient population. The resident will develop proficiency in addressing social determinants of health that may impact medication adherence and health outcomes. In addition to community involvement and direct patient care, the resident will advance their academic skills by precepting pharmacy students and creating educational activities. The resident will have ample opportunity to cultivate leadership and practice management skills through completion of projects including research, business plan, quality improvement initiatives, and protocol development. Graduates of the program are prepared for a PGY2 pharmacy residency or employment as a clinical pharmacist.
Program representatives will be available at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy Affiliated Programs Showcase booths 5412 and 5420, in addition to University Health booth 5421 on TUESDAY 8-11am.
Application Requirements
In order to be considered for this residency, the applicant must:
Possess a strong interest in clinical pharmacy practice
Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident
Be enrolled in or complete an ACPE-accredited PharmD degree program
Participate in the ASHP Resident Matching Program
Once accepted into the residency program, candidates should submit a completed UHS Job Application by May 1 and obtain a Registered Pharmacist License in the state of Texas by August 1.
