The Laboratory technician with BS or MS in biology, pharmacy, chemistry, biochemistry or related field will be responsible for running routine analytical assessments, assist in data analyses and quality control. He/she will perform laboratory work in support of validation and quality control of nanoparticles which includes but is not limited to animal studies, cell culture, particle size/shape evaluations, nanoparticle quality control assays and preparation of key reagents (cell culture media, buffers, etc). The laboratory technician will also be responsible for managing chemical inventory and supplies for the routine laboratory work. The technician will also be required to assist with animal studies after successful completion of all required trainings. The assigned duties all require working in the laboratory in person full time. This position supports DOD funded projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will perform cell based and animal studies, perform research planning, coordination and student training. Research duties will include laboratory work and research reporting, data analysis and interpretation.
Will perform routine quality control work in support of manufacturing nanoparticles and other products. He/she will need to exercise independent decision making and execute research plans.
Participate in animal studies which include and are not limited to live imaging, ex vivo imaging and animal treatments under approved IACUC protocols.
Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, pharmacy, chemistry, biochemistry or related field from an accredited institution and 1-3 years work-related experience.
Prior laboratory experience.
Safety training from Duquesne upon hire.
CITI training for animal work.
Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in biology or chemistry.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Displays leadership skills in the lab and serves as a role model for junior colleagues (graduate and undergraduate students).
Ability to perform animal studies and cell based assays.
Ability to perform analytical control assays in support of nanoparticle manufacturing.
Ability to collect data in analytical studies.
Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
