Outpatient Clinical Pharmacy Practice
Our year-long, ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program has been training pharmacy residents since 1990. Our residents spend most of their time performing direct outpatient care services in the Providence Medical Group (PMG) clinic in Monroe, Washington, working collaboratively with all members of the primary care team. All required learning experiences in our program are longitudinal, which allows for the development of both clinical skills and patient relationships which are right at the heart of ambulatory care. Our program’s design supports and encourages our residents in building the skills, knowledge, confidence, and proficiency that are essential to becoming effective clinical pharmacists in both ambulatory care and community practice settings. Graduates of our program are well-prepared and positioned to manage chronic diseases under collaborative drug therapy agreements; work as part of a multidisciplinary, patient-centered healthcare team; contribute to innovative outpatient pharmacy practice; pursue a PGY-2 residency in ambulatory care; and become board-certified in ambulatory care.

Progressive Clinical Pharmacy Services
The Medication & Anticoagulation Clinic utilizes collaborative practice agreements and protocols to provide several clinical services that allow pharmacists to work at the top of their license. Services currently offered by the Ambulatory Pharmacy Department include management of and prescriptive authority for anticoagulation (ACC), type II diabetes (DM), hypertension (HTN), lipids, hepatitis C (HCV), and dermatology; clinic-administered and -managed pharmacotherapy (for osteoporosis, behavioral health, and HIV); transitions of care medication reconciliation for discharging inpatients (TOC); and prescription renewal authorizations (Refills). On-site medication dispensing is offered Credena Health Pharmacies, which are owned and operated by Providence. Credena Health Pharmacies also offer expanded patient services, including immunizations, adherence packaging, medication therapy management services, home medication delivery, and other services. 

Our residency program provides residents with a variety of concurrent longitudinal learning experiences. Residents have the support and mentorship of our team of dedicated clinical preceptors throughout the year, who provide comprehensive training to build residents’ skills and autonomy in outpatient and ambulatory pharmacy practice to prepare them to become skilled pharmacy clinicians and leaders.

Providence Northwest
Providence is one of the largest providers of healthcare in the nation and operates over 50 hospitals and 1000 clinics across the western United States. Our region, the North Puget Sound, includes a large local hospital (Providence Regional Medical Center – Everett (PRMCE)) and 11 PMG outpatient clinics located throughout Snohomish County, Washington. The PRMCE Ambulatory Pharmacy Department’s Medication & Anticoagulation Clinic provides clinical services to our communities and partners with PMG to increase patient access to these services.

The Providence Medical Building (PMB) in Monroe, Washington is located in a rural community about 30 miles northeast of Seattle and has a population of about 20,000. PMB Monroe contains PMG family and internal medicine primary care clinics, pediatrics, a walk-in clinic, a variety of specialty services, an integrated dispensing pharmacy (Credena Health Pharmacy Monroe), and the Medication & Anticoagulation Clinic.
