Critical Care Residency Special Features: Boston Medical Center's PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency was the first in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to gain ASHP accreditation in 2004. During that time, critical care pharmacy services have expanded to include dedicated specialists in medical, trauma, cardiac, and surgery critical care. Additionally, the emergency department has grown to be the only ED in the Commonwealth to provide 24/7 decentralized pharmacy services. The critical care resident will participate in one week of ICU evening staffing intermittently and staff every 3rd weekend alternating between the ED satellite and ICU decentralized coverage. Longitudinal projects focus on clinical research or quality improvement based on the Institute for Healthcare Improvement model.

Emergency Medicine (EM) Residency Special Features: This program offers specialized training in emergency medicine pharmacotherapy in one of the busiest emergency departments in the United States and largest level 1 trauma center in the Northeast region. Rotation options include emergency medicine, emergency department administration, pediatric emergency medicine & pediatric intensive care, and adult intensive care (medical, trauma/surgical, neuro and cardiac). Longitudinal activities include completion of a research/quality improvement project, medication safety, drug policy development and teaching opportunities. In addition, the resident meets the objectives for hospital practice by participating in independent practice in the Emergency Department.
