Responsibilities: | Veterinary Technician I (AN002) Veterinary Technician II (AN003) Veterinary Technician III (AN004) |
Tasks: | - Calling in the appropriate services and backup support after hours and weekends for patients
- Care and hourly treatment of CCU hospitalized patients
- Catheter placement (iv, urinary, etc.)
- Charge capture of services for patients
- Client communication and documentation
- Collection and submissions of lab samples
- Follows UWVC policies and procedures
- Maintenance and knowledge of equipment in the department and hospital
- Participates in the rotating OC shifts for the teaching hospital
- Participates in the training and mentoring of students, interns, technicians, assistants, and residents
- Pharmacy medication script fills for hospitalized animals
- Radiographs of patients
- Sedation and anesthesia for patients in the ECC
- Triage and stabilization of patients
- Bring a positive, helpful attitude to the unit

Qualifications: | Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.
This position is posted at Vet Tech levels 1, 2 and 3. Level is determined by qualifications based on type of prior veterinary tech experience.
To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad or awaiting to sit for the CVT exam, or some CVT working experience with no specialization.
To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 2 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.
To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital. |
License/Certification: | Preferred CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician or eligible to obtain within 12 months |
Work Schedule: | UW Veterinary Care Emergency and Critical Care Units (ECC) have a variety of weekend shifts available! Incumbents would work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights and/or days. Schedule determined based on unit need
Pay incentives for evening and weekend shifts of $3.00/hour night, $1.80/hour weekend, and the total you could earn is $4.80/hour for weekend and night differential on top of the base pay! This position is also eligible for a $3.00/hour ECC shift differential in addition to the night and weekend differentials.
Position will include holiday and weekend shifts. Potential for additional on-call hours as required by the hospital. |
