Program Specific Information:
The PGY-2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency at UMHS is a one-year post-graduate training program designed to develop essential knowledge and skills for contemporary health-system pharmacy practice at a major academic medical center, community-based hospital, or other mental health facility (e.g. VA, state hospital, community mental health center). The residency program provides the flexibility to adapt to the resident’s specific learning needs and goals. The training is provided through concentrated clinical rotations and longitudinal experiences.
Program Purpose:
The purpose of the PGY-2 Psychiatric Pharmacy residency program at UMHS is to prepare psychiatry specialists who are qualified to practice in a variety of mental health environments including, but not limited to: inpatient psychiatry (acute, general adult, substance use disorders, geriatric, child/adolescent), emergency psychiatry, consult liaison psychiatry and outpatient clinics. Residents will have integral involvement in psychopharmacology stewardship. Through extensive training in this broad range of experiences, residents will develop expertise to identify, prevent, and resolve medication-related problems in patients with complex and treatment-refractory symptoms; participate as active members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams; demonstrate precepting and leadership skills; and provide interprofessional and pharmacy education related to psychopharmacology topics.
Requirements:
Eligibility for or holding an active pharmacist and controlled substance license in Michigan, academic transcripts, successful completion of a PGY1 residency program, three letters of reference in the standard PhORCAS form, letter of intent, and curriculum vitae.
An interview is required and will be scheduled between late January and early February.
