Overview
Endevor Health NorthShore Hospitals (formerly known as NorthShore University HealthSystem) is a private, not-for-profit community teaching hospital system based in Evanston, Illinois. The corporation consists of four hospitals - Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Highland Park Hospital, and Skokie Hospital and a 900 member Medical Group. The hospitals of Endeavor Health rank among the Top 100 Hospitals and the Top 15 major teaching hospitals nationally. With the full implementation of electronic medical record, NorthShore is recognized as one of the "Most Wired Hospitals" in the country.
Education of health care professionals is an important component of our mission. Endeavor Health NorthShore Hospitals currently offers 10 positions in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program, 3 positions in the PGY1 Community Residency program, and 1 position each in the PGY2 Oncology, PGY1/2 Pharmacy Informatics, PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency, and PGY2 Pharmacogenomics Programs. All residents have opportunities to develop and reinforce clinical, practice management, and precepting skills to advance as well-rounded practitioners.
Program Description:
The Endeavor Health NorthShore Hospitals PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program prepares residents to practice as clinical pharmacists in the community/outpatient pharmacy and diverse ambulatory care settings. The residency program supports Endeavor Health’s mission to “help everyone in our communities be their best” by providing the resident with skills to confidently provide care using evidenced based medicine to improve the health and wellbeing of the patients within the communities they serve. Being part of a large health system gives residents the opportunity to work in unique hospital outpatient pharmacies and diverse clinical settings including: anticoagulation, oncology, heart failure, general medicine, population management, and cardiodiabetes. Additionally, the residents will have the opportunity to collaborate with other healthcare providers in various settings; develop viable pharmacy services; effectively manage a community/outpatient pharmacy and ambulatory clinic; advance community pharmacy practice, and educate pharmacists and other health care providers. The residents will have various opportunities to provide educational presentations to the patients and the community as well as participate in health screenings, vaccination clinics, and medication take back events. Residents will also have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through experiences within their pharmacy management and administration learning experiences, participation in corporate and departmental committees. Residents will also have the opportunity to mentor and teach pharmacy students through a formal Teaching Certificate program and IPPE/APPE preceptorship.

The resident is expected to staff in one of the hospital outpatient pharmacies one weekday per week and every other Saturday. During the weekday staffing shifts, the resident will typically staff at their home site. During the weekend staffing shifts, the residents will rotate among the outpatient pharmacies. In addition, the resident will staff two-three full weeks during the year. The resident is expected to work a minimum of 59 staffing shifts during the residency year. While staffing, the resident is responsible for all aspects of pharmaceutical care. For one quarter of the residency year, the resident may staff 2 days per week and every other weekend.
Duration, Salary, and Benefits
The residency begins end of June and lasts for 12 months. Annual salary is competitive with other programs. Benefits include healthcare coverage, prescription coverage, dental, vacation, sick time, Tax Deferred Annuity and continuing education funding.
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited program prior to start date
Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician or Student Intern license (if a pharmacist license is not obtained prior to start of residency year)
Illinois Pharmacist Registration by August 15th of residency year
PhORCAS application, including curriculum vitae, letter of intent, transcript, and 3 letters of recommendation (at least 1 letter must be from a previous employer)
Onsite interview for selected candidates
Previous work experience in a community pharmacy is preferred. All candidates must be self-directed and motivated.
