Overview
The Carle Foundation Hospital Pharmacy Residency program is a 12-month postgraduate curriculum that offers a broad area of training opportunities in various clinical settings. During the residency program, the residents will gain experience in direct patient care, teaching, research, and pharmacy operations. The residents will work closely with an experienced group of pharmacy preceptors as part of a multidisciplinary medical team to support optimal medication therapy outcomes. In addition, they will manage medication-use systems to provide safe and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to patients. The residency program will prepare residents to be highly qualified independent practitioners able to pursue a multitude of career paths upon completion of the PGY1 program. The Carle Foundation Hospital PGY-1 Residency Program participates in the ASHP Resident Matching Program (the “Match”) and adheres to the rules of the Match. Residents applying must adhere to the rules of the resident matching program. Applications must be submitted electronically in the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) at http://www.ashp.org/phorcas. All applications must be submitted by the predetermined date selected in PhORCAS.
Applicants must provide current curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation. If selected for an interview, the applicant may be required to give a brief presentation as part of the interview process. Illinois licensure is required by August 1 of the residency year. Requirements for Completion of the Residency Program
Obtain Pharmacist license in the state of Illinois on or before August 1st (depending on circumstances, no later than 120 days after the start of the program).
Complete BLS/ACLS/PALS curriculum. Maintain certifications active if obtained prior to the residency.
Obtain Teaching Certification
Create/maintain an electronic version of resident binder and submit to RPD
Precept IPPE/APPE student(s).
Attain “Achieved for residency (ACHR)” in ~90% (28/31) of required objectives (Refer to Appendix A in the manual).
Satisfactory completion of all learning experiences. If a learning experience is not satisfactorily completed, appropriate remedial work must be completed as determined by the preceptors and the RPD.
Complete requirements for residency research project including a poster presentation and submission of a final manuscript(Deliverable Objective R2.1.6, Objective R2.1.2).
Completion of all assignments, presentations and projects as defined by the preceptors and RPD by the end of the residency.
Completion of a minimum of 4 journal clubs and 4 PowerPoint presentations
Completion of at least one of the following, drug class review, MUE, monograph, treatment protocol, utilization management criteria, and/or order set (Deliverable Objective R1.4.2, Objective R2.1.2, Objective R2.1.6)
Compliance with all institutional and departmental policies.
Present 1 MUE or equivalent project to P&T Committee or another audience deemed appropriate based on the topic
Provide at least 1 verbal and 1 written educational piece to disseminate knowledge to an appropriate audience (e.g. CE, presentation, guideline update...) (Deliverable Objective R4.1.1, Objective R4.1.2, Objective R4.1.3)
Concurrence by the RAC that the pharmacy resident has successfully completed the aforementioned requirements of the program.
