Program Specific Information:
PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy. Residents who successfully complete this accredited HSPAL PGY2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical or operational leadership careers and position them to be well-versed in all areas of pharmacy management. The residency program also offers a third-year fellowship option for residents completing an MBA.
This residency program is designed to prepare residents to become successful pharmacy leaders by providing a wide array of experiences with leaders in pharmacy administration, renowned clinicians, and world-class experts in research, education, and population health. Upon completion of the program, residents will be prepared to accept leadership positions in settings throughout the healthcare enterprise.
Residency candidates must have successfully completed a PGY1 residency program and be eligible for or hold an active pharmacist and controlled substance license in Michigan. Interested candidates must submit the following materials via PhORCAS no later than January 2nd:
three letters of reference in the standard PhORCAS form
letter of intent
An interview is required and will be scheduled between late January and early February.
