The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Our Lady of the Lake provides residents with an opportunity to deliver evidence-based, cost-effective care in unit-based and multidisciplinary settings. Leadership and project management skills are honed through participation in practice-based research as well as departmental and organizational quality improvement initiatives. Residents completing the program are prepared to pursue PGY-2 residency training and attain clinical positions in institutional settings.
The ASHP Accredited PGY-1 program is a 12-month learning experience dedicated to:
Improvement of the medication use process
Provision of evidence-based patient-centered medication therapy management in multidisciplinary settings
Leadership and practice management development
Enhancement of medication safety and therapeutic outcomes
Development of sustainable pharmacy practice and educational models
The residency program will provide a well-rounded exposure to a broad area of pharmacy practice including, but not limited to: General Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Nutrition Support, Pharmacokinetics, Drug Information, Emergency Medicine and Pharmacy Administration. Residents will deliver in-services, prepare and deliver presentations, and complete at least one major project. They will also have opportunities to develop their teaching and precepting skills.
As a postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy resident, you'll receive:
Estimated Stipend: $44,000
Earned time accrual (holidays/vacation/sick leave)
Paid professional leave for meeting attendance
Health/Dental/Vision/Life Insurance
Reimbursement for travel to professional meetings
The PGY-2 Critical Care Residency Program at Our Lady of the Lake will prepare residents to become competent critical care pharmacy specialists with exposure to a wide variety of critically ill patient populations. Residents will have opportunities to function independently as a practitioner to provide improved patient outcomes and assist in quality improvement initiatives for the institution. Duties will include but are not limited to: a longitudinal research project, formal presentations, in-services, medication use evaluations, drug monographs, precepting of pharmacy students and PGY-1 residents, and medication safety management. The resident will provide care for patients in the following intensive care settings: medical, surgical, cardiovascular, trauma, neuroscience, pediatric, and neonatal. Residents will also gain experience in emergency medicine, infectious disease, and nutrition support.

Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (OLOL) is the largest private medical center in Louisiana with over 864 licensed beds. In a given year, OLOL treats over 35,000 patients in the hospital and over 350,000 persons at outpatient locations in an eleven parish (county) service area. OLOL continuously seeks ways to ensure a diverse scope of treatments, technologies, and resources for the community. The emergency department is the busiest in the region with over 150,000 visits last year. OLOL offers the area’s largest pediatric intensive care unit, a level III surgical neonatal intensive care unit, and the only pediatric emergency room in the area as well as a cadre of pediatric physician subspecialty services. OLOL is also the area’s largest provider of mental and behavioral health care services offering unique services such as an inpatient medical detoxification program and adolescent inpatient mental health program.
