Internal Medicine Pharmacy
The Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency is a 12-month training program that aims to train highly motivated and qualified pharmacists to provide exceptional care for adult internal medicine patients. The practice setting is a 250-bed tertiary VA hospital in Memphis, TN. The pharmacy resident will work as an integral member of the healthcare team, along with medical residents, fellows and students affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. The resident will have the opportunity to develop practice management skills, participate in educational programs, provide formal lectures, and precept pharmacy students. The resident will also participate in projects designed to improve patient care and outcomes. Flexible training schedules allow the resident to pursue areas of personal interest while meeting the educational goals of the program. Appointment is within the Federal government, and residents are therefore subject to all regulations and requirements of the Federal system.
The purpose of the PGY2 Internal Medicine Program is to build upon the resident’s Doctor of Pharmacy education and PGY1 residency training in order to develop proficiency and expertise as a clinical pharmacist specialized in adult Internal Medicine. The PGY2 Internal Medicine resident will collaborate with healthcare team members to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes and improve patient care. Upon completion of the PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency, the resident will be prepared to independently practice as an advanced pharmacotherapy specialist for Internal Medicine patients.
General application requirements: - U.S. Citizenship - PharmD degree from ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy - Pharmacy license - Participating in (or have completed) an ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program

The facility offers a full range of acute medical, surgical and specialty care services. The VAMC Memphis serves over 196,000 Veterans in a 53 county wide area of West Tennessee, Northern Mississippi and Northwest Arkansas. Outpatient services are provided at nine VA staffed and contracted Community Based Outpatient.
