Rhode Island Primary Care/Integra offers a unique ambulatory pharmacy residency experience embedded within the Integra accountable care organization (ACO). The resident will work directly with patients in primary care physician offices or clinics. Diverse learning experiences will prepare the resident for a pharmacy career in ambulatory care or academia and the resident will be exposed to an innovative healthcare and ambulatory care model.
The program offers comprehensive experiences in ambulatory care pharmacy practice involving collaborative practice and medication therapy management in a variety of practice settings. These include adult primary care in independent and employed practice models, geriatric care, and transitions of care. Additionally, residents will participate in a population health learning experience that will provide opportunity to develop proficiency in innovative healthcare and pharmacy models as well as quality metrics. Residents will have the opportunity to select (2) elective learning experiences in academia, geriatrics II, advanced population health, pharmacy administration, quality healthcare, and primary care II. The resident is required to complete a research project throughout the course of the residency program.
As part of an organization of over 150 primary care providers and specialists and serving more than 150,000 patients across the state of Rhode Island, the resident will have countless opportunities and the residency will be shaped based on resident interests and anticipated career path.
Program Purpose: PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

Rhode Island Primary Care Physicians Corporation (RIPCPC) is a multi-specialty Independent Practice Association (IPA) of physicians located throughout the State of Rhode Island.
RIPCPC, originally formed in 1994, currently represents over 150 primary care physicians from family practice, internal medicine and pediatric medicine. The IPA also represents over 200 specialty-care member physicians which include behavioral health, optometry and ophthalmology, gastroenterology and cardiology. RIPCPC delivers support services that are essential to providing high quality, cost-effective medicine to their patients, while also preserving community-based practices. Our PCPs act as primary care providers for over 150,000 Rhode Islanders.
RIPCPC has been implementing innovative quality improvement models for over 20 years. Our focus has been on implementing the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) 'Patient-Centered Medical Home' (PCMH) care delivery model. This patient-centric care delivery model enhances quality, improves access and implements care coordination strategies. We have implemented more PCMH’s than any other organization in the state and believe it is the core bui...lding block of our quality improvement systems and vital to our successful care delivery model.
Most recently, RIPCPC has formed an Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Integra, with the Care New England hospital system. This is the first of its kind in our region, where an IPA and a hospital system team up to better coordinate care in a way unmatched in our community. This partnership enabled us to build a larger network of primary care physicians, specialists and clinical services to help meet the unique needs of our patients. Our goal is simple - to build Rhode Island's first virtually integrated health care system where clinical team members coordinate care focused on achieving the triple aim: improving quality, reducing costs, improve patient and physician satisfaction.
