Summary of Position: As a part of the College of Pharmacy, the Institute for Therapeutics Discovery & Development (ITDD) carries out interdisciplinary research, helps educate the next generation of scientists, and enhances the biomedical research infrastructure at the University of Minnesota. Within the ITDD, this position develops, conducts fragment-based and high throughput screens, analyzes, and presents experimental data. A key piece to this position is to perform lab managing duties, including overall responsibility for the designated HTS core facility, biosafety, tissue culture room, self-contained biosafety level 2 facility, and screening collections.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 30% Develop biochemical and cell-based assays for high-throughput compound screening and medicinal chemistry lead optimization.
20% Conduct fragment-based and high-throughput screens of chemical libraries.
20% Analyze and present assay development, high-throughput screening, and compound activity experimental results and conclusions to drug discovery project teams. Documenting results and contributing to manuscript writing.
30% -Manage assigned HTS Facility instruments, including maintenance, repair, and training others on use. -Manage annual BioSafety inspections for the tissue culture room and the self-contained biosafety level 2 facility and chemical safety, eyewash stations, and shower stations. -Manage tissue culture room and the self-contained biosafety level 2 facility. -Manage screening collection of > 330,000 compounds, including low temperature compound storage, plating compounds into 384-well plates, and inventory of over 5000 compound plates.

Salary: Base starting at $62,000 but is negotiable

Required Qualifications: -Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience or BS/BA and 4 years of related experience. -Experience with, maintaining, and conducting cell bioassay and experimental procedures. -Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of students and researchers. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills. -Ability to meet deadlines and work in a dynamic lab environment. -Highly organized and initiative driven.
Preferred qualifications: -Ability to work independently, reliable and self-motivated. -Experience managing a laboratory. -Excellent organizational skills in record keeping.
