The Brooklyn Hospital Center is located in Brooklyn's fastest growing neighborhood. "Brownstone Brooklyn," Fort Greene is consistently ranked as one of New York's most livable neighborhoods. The hospital is located minutes away from ten subway lines (2, 3, 4, 5, B, M, Q, G, F & R), a short walk from Atlantic Terminal, down the street from Barclays Center, adjacent to the BAM cultural district, and right next to beautiful and historic Fort Greene Park.
Join the staff of TBHC, and become part of the buzz surrounding the Downtown Brooklyn (also known as "DoBro") market! The Brooklyn Tech Triangle is the area consisting of Downtown Brooklyn, DUMBO, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. This area has become a magnet for the most pioneering, energetic and creative entrepreneurs and has emerged as the City's largest cluster of tech activity outside of Manhattan.
Serving our community for over 175 years, we may be Brooklyn's first hospital; however, our pharmacists are practicing on the cutting edge of pharmacotherapy.
Our motto, “The Remedy is Experience”, reflects the overall mission of our program. Our mission is to afford residents the opportunity to gain experiences and knowledge in a pharmacotherapy model that functions as a think tank and proving ground for programs and services. This model promotes the concept of practicing at the "top of your license" within the hospital. Upon your completion of the program, it is anticipated that PGY1's will be prepared for the progression into a PGY-2 program of your choice, and PGY2's into board-eligible pharmacotherapy specialists and academicians. Ultimately, most of our our alumni become board certified and move into pharmacotherapy specialist, academic faculty positions, or positions within the pharmaceutical industry. When engaging with other institutions you will take pharmacy practice to a higher level, perhaps implementing the services that you were exposed to during the residency program at TBHC. The integration of each resident into the pharmacotherapeutic services at the hospital provides a level of experience that is often not found in residency training programs. Additionally, with five PGY-1 residents, six PGY-2 residents, and our fellow, there are ample opportunities to share ideas, as well as the triumphant highs, and the occasional lows with a supportive group. An esprit des corps is very apparent among our residents. Please come spend some time talking with them as part of your interview process.
The purpose of our postgraduate year one (PGY1) residency program is to develop accountability; practice patterns; habits; and expert knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities in pharmacy practice. These programs will build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The purpose of our PGY2 programs is to build upon the broad-based competencies achieved in a PGY1 residency, deepening the resident's ability to provide care in the most complex of cases or in the support of care through practice leadership. Residents will have the opportunity to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and transforming both into improved medication therapy for patients. Upon completion of this program, the resident should possess the competencies that enable attainment of board certification and qualify for a career path in their respective specialty area.
Our Department of Pharmacy Services supports the goals of our residency programs. The Department of Pharmacy Services is a dynamic department with a progressive clinical focus, staffed by sixteen pharmacists, eight pharmacy residents, six interns, eight clinical coordinators, three clinical pharmacy educators, technicians, messengers, and a dedicated management team. The department participates in all aspects of medication safety and dispensing with state of the art computer systems and technology. Dispensing services are achieved with a balance of professional, technical, and automated services, including a complete intravenous admixture service, TPN compounder, and robotics.
Requirements:
Graduate of an ACPE accredited PharmD program.
Phorcas application (including three letters of recommendation, CV, transcript and letter of intent/personal statement).
On-site interview.
Participation in the ASHP National Residency Matching Program
