The Dudley Knox Library at the Naval Postgraduate School is seeking applicants for LIBRARIAN (RESEARCH AND INSTRUCTION). This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment (AD-03).  Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. The Library is particularly interested in highly-energetic, collaborative, and proactive candidates.

The primary responsibilities of Research and Instruction Librarians are to teach information/digital literacy concepts and skills, provide research assistance to students and faculty, and to serve as library subject specialists for students and faculty in one or more of the primary NPS subject/research areas. Librarians in this position are members of the Reference and Instruction unit at the Dudley Knox Library and report to the Library’s Outreach & Academic Support Manager.

Duties include:

• Provides comprehensive research consultation and thorough research assistance; designs, implements, and assesses library instructional services.

• Serves as the subject liaison between the library and faculty in assigned academic areas and actively collaborates with faculty; proactively engages with faculty and students to identify current and emerging user needs and plan new library services to support teaching, learning and scholarship.

• Evaluates and maintains the library collection for currency and relevance to the curriculum and faculty research needs in assigned subject areas; regularly informs departmental faculty and students about relevant library resources and services and facilitates feedback.

• Proactively explores and advocates for innovative use of changing technologies to support online learning and enhance library information and instructional services; creates and maintains research guides, online tools, and tutorials; stays abreast of trends in the profession and participates in professional activities.

Minimal Qualifications:

• An accredited graduate degree in a discipline that supports the departmental needs (preferably a Master of Library and Information Science or equivalent)
• Demonstrated experience or classwork related to reference and instruction
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently
• Eligibility for a Secret clearance; and
• Must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

• An undergraduate or graduate degree in the sciences is preferred.
• Experience in digital fluency or information literacy instruction is preferred.
• Knowledge of data science is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience or classwork related to collection development is preferred.
