Baptist Hospital of Miami PGY-2 Cardiology Residency
Baptist Health South Florida Residency Programs
Location: Miami, Florida
The PGY-2 cardiology residency program at Baptist Hospital is a 12-month pharmacy specialty-training program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). It is designed to establish a foundation of cardiovascular knowledge and to develop the skills and practice trends necessary to deliver highly specialized pharmaceutical care. The goal of the program is to develop independent pharmacy practitioners to become integral members of the multidisciplinary cardiology team.
This specialty residency program builds upon the general competencies achieved during a PGY-1 residency, expanding the ability of residents to provide care for complex cardiovascular patients in a variety of settings. The training is coordinated to allow residents to master each of the disease states established within the ASHP practice standards for PGY-2 residency in cardiology. It empowers residents to function as independent practitioners with the ability to incorporate both knowledge and experience into outcome-driven medication therapy. Opportunities for teaching, research, quality improvement and professional writing are integrated.
Upon completion of this program, graduating residents will be prepared to seek board certification in cardiology and will have the necessary expertise to exercise clinical and leadership abilities as a cardiology clinical specialist.
Candidates for this residency must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy and Florida licensure (or eligible); in addition, they must have successfully completed an ASHP accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency (certificate required). Applicants are required to submit the following documents: a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, official transcripts, and three letters of recommendation from professional references utilizing standard form required by PhORCAS™. Candidates must participate in the Resident Matching Program.
