Job description:
A breast cancer research lab is seeking a post-doctoral associate to join the laboratory focused on basic and translational breast cancer research. We use cell culture and animal models to examine molecular mechanisms regulating the development and progression of breast cancer with a specific focus on the tumor microenvironment. Candidates will be expected to independently design experimental protocols, and carryout experiments and interpret the results. Candidates will be expected to be coauthor and submit manuscripts and research grants as well as train and supervise graduate and undergraduate students and/or research technicians.
Responsibilities
Independently create and plan experiments based on knowledge of the field, gained by researching the relevant literature, contacting other researchers in the field and collaboration with other labs
Perform experiments using methods created according to previously published methods or novel methods developed as needed
Analyze data collected from experiments, generate manuscript figures, write and edit manuscripts.
Review literature relating to research projects; assist in writing primary research articles, review articles, and grant proposals
Work collaboratively with others in the lab, train incoming new lab personnel in relevant experimental techniques
50% Conduct investigations or experiments in an assigned area to aid in the solution of a research problem
Maintain cell culture stocks
Examine the effects of various drugs or genetic modifications on cell culture growth, survival, migration and invasion in vitro and tumor growth in vivo
Perform DNA, RNA and protein analysis using PCR, RT-PCR, sequencing, immunoblot analysis, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry
15% Actively participate in research efforts by exploring new possible approaches to problems or suggesting new interpretation of data
Review literature for alternative technical approaches and implement them in the lab
Contribute to discussions in weekly lab meetings regarding troubleshooting and implementation of new protocols related to projects being performed by others in the lab
15% Assist in modifying existing techniques and procedures or in developing new ones.
Analyze the data gathered from the experiments and troubleshoot each specific procedure as required
Assist and train other members of the laboratory, including undergraduate and graduate students, in proper experimental technique and in following protocols
15% Select and review literature relating to the assigned area. Assist in writing of technical reports and articles for publications. Discuss possible approaches to problems with supervisor
Discuss possible troubleshooting techniques based on literature review or meetings with other colleagues
Contribute to manuscript preparation by writing up experimental results and determining how they will contribute to the overall study
Review literature to incorporate into the manuscripts as background or discussion
5% Manage inventory of lab supplies
