The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is designed to develop proficiency in a variety of clinically oriented patient care settings. Our mission is to integrate the pharmacy practice resident with a variety of disciplines within the patient care team. Upon completion of the residency, the candidate will have the skills and experience needed to perform at the highest level within the profession. The residency emphasizes independent thinking and application of clinical concepts in the development of progressive clinical services.
Required Rotations Internal Medicine Critical Care Cardiology Emergency Medicine Mental Health Oncology Infectious Diseases Neonatology & Obstetrics Elective
Throughout the residency year, the resident will develop a question into a research project. The resident will have the chance to present this project at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and at the Midwest Pharmacy Residency Conference. Teaching certificate through UMKC is available.

We are a 504-bed, non-profit community hospital specializing in multiple surgical procedures, heart and vascular health, behavioral health and women's health. In addition, the Medical Center features an extensive network of ambulatory clinics and has one of the busiest emergency departments in the area. The hospital is located near two colleges of pharmacy, which allow our staff to be involved in the education of future pharmacists.
The Department of Pharmacy consists of more than 60 associates who provide care to patients via eight satellite pharmacies, 28-bed ICU, 30-bed CCU, one retail pharmacy, an MD Anderson-affiliated cancer center pharmacy, an ED/surgery center pharmacy, and a pharmacist-managed anticoagulation clinc in a large family-practice clinic.
