National trade association representing chain pharmacy industry seeks experienced field-based director to join state government affairs team covering multiple states primarily in the Northeast region. Ideal candidate could be located in this area, but not necessary.
Position has the responsibility for promoting, lobbying, advancing and executing the policies and positions of NACDS at the state level to further the interests of the chain pharmacy. Coordinate and collaborate with in-state members and partners. Analyze issues, identify trends and formulate strategy to influence state legislation and regulations. Develop and implement unique state plans on state legislative and regulatory issues. Assess the political landscape to identify pro-pharmacy, pro-business candidates worthy of financial support. Create talking points, comments, written testimony, letters and other materials for advocacy efforts advancing NACDS’ policy positions. Monitor hearings and regulatory proceedings and testify as needed.
Serve as a resource on healthcare issues related to pharmacy and ensure issues are communicated to members, lobbyist, legislators and interested parties as appropriate. Engage members in state lobbying activities and respond to member requests for information. Create and foster a network with pharmacists, members, other associations and business groups, wholesalers, manufacturers, patient groups, health care providers, students to collaborate where appropriate. Relationships with elected officials, regulators and agency officials and key staff.
Position is remote meaning its not 100% in our Arlington VA headquarters office. Position could be in existing home office/provided equipment/office set-up if necessary. NACDS requires up to date COVID-19 vaccination as condition of employment (proof of vaccination and booster required before your start date), unless a reasonable accommodation has been requested and granted for a bona fide medical or religious reason.
Minimum qualifications: five years legislative/regulatory work experience preferably in health care; possess thorough understanding of state government affairs; college degree; effective public speaking, outstanding written communications skills; ability to maintain independent work environment but work part of a team. Utilize Microsoft Office 365 to collaborate. Ability to travel off hours and on weekends and maintain flexible/changing schedule; travel dependent on state legislative schedules of assigned states from your location.
