Pharmacy Technician Supervisor- Adult InfusionDepartment Description
The Pharmacy Department provides comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps and teaching) throughout the Medical Center complex 24 hours per day. The Department is comprised of three inpatient, six outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores and distribution. Staffing consists of professional and technical and administrative support personnel.

Responsibilities Responsible for on-line supervision of Infusion Pharmacy Technician 2 and 3's. Responsible for daily management of operations. Responsible for supervision, staff development and assessment of staff competency for technicians. Responsible for student training in the areas. Manages daily scheduling of technicians and duty assignments. Works with the Infusion Pharmacy Supervisor to identify areas of improvement and solutions through integration of Pharmacy Resources. Responsible for investigation and remedy of incident reports in responsible areas.
The Technician staff are responsible for drug storage, preparation and distribution of medications throughout UCDMC under the supervision of a pharmacist, and perform maintenance and inventory functions. This position is 50% operations and 50% administrative.
Required Qualifications Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
- Current Registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy as a Licensed Pharmacy Technician
- Valid CA Pharmacy Technician license
- Current Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Skills, knowledge, and abilities to effectively operate a inpatient pharmacy that includes IV and UD operations.
- Skills, knowledge, and abilities to interview, select, and train technicians.
- Skills, knowledge, and abilities to effectively evaluate technicians.
- Skills and abilities to effectively supervise and motivate technicians.
- Knowledge of the corrective action and dispute resolution process. Knowledge of the UCDMC-AFSCME contract, and Hospital Policies and Procedures. Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of regulatory issues, assure compliance of satellite to JCAHO, State Board of Pharmacy, DHS, DEA, etc.
- Ability to reassign staff for changing needs.
- Ability to design area Goals and Objectives consistent with Departmental Goals and Objectives.
- Skills and abilities to collect and analyze monthly workload statistics.
- Skills and abilities to effectively communicate and plan with other areas of the Department.
- Skills, knowledge, and abilities to create, evaluate, or update Policies and Procedures.
- Skills, knowledge, and abilities to envision future trends in drug distribution.
- Skills, knowledge, and abilities to utilize the Pyxis System and EMR for billing, problem solving, and data retrieval.
- Skills, knowledge, and abilities to effectively teach and evaluate performance of technicians, and students.
- Knowledge and ability to comply with the guidelines for interpersonal skills.

- Completes fall required training and inservices, including but not limited to aseptic technique, chemotherapy preparation, annual JCAHO training, and appropriate competencies.
Preferred Qualifications - Experienced in inventory management at a Health System Outpatient Pharmacy or Specialty Pharmacy
- Experience with 340B drug pricing program inventory management and 340B accumulator platforms such as Macro Helix
- Experienced with acquiring inventory from wholesalers, direct from manufacturers, and other vendors
- Experience with Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience correctly and accurately using, maintaining, and troubleshooting pharmacy robotics and automation
- Experience running inventory reports and analyzing data for inventory requirements
- Experienced in utilizing EPIC Willow Ambulatory pharmacy dispensing system
- Experienced in non-sterile compounding tasks using equipment including, but not limited to: graduated cylinders, mortars and pestles, scales, stirring machines, etc.
- Current working knowledge of pharmacy terminology, generic/brand names and drug abbreviations
- Working knowledge of current Medi-Cal Formulary and other third-party billing systems.
- Must be able to recognize situations that exceed technician authority and ability and must be referred to a pharmacist for resolution.
- Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem and identify the resources available to help solve the problem. To independently create and implement viable solutions and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved.
- Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times.
- Ability to impart knowledge and develop the skills of students participating in training programs, as well as new hires and staff seeking additional opportunities.
- Working knowledge of and skill to apply practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise.
- Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English.
- Must be able to lift packages up to 50 pounds without assistance and push/pull carts up to 600 pounds.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred
