The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has a temporary 50% FTE Professional Support Specialist position available through the Cancer Prevention Department. Specifically, this position is under the direction of Dr. Katrina Ortblad within the Division of Public Health Sciences at Fred Hutch. Dr. Ortblads research aims to improve equity in health access with differentiated models of HIV service delivery in high prevalence settings. Most of her work focuses on designing innovative models for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery with African research colleagues, refining these models using findings from qualitative research and stakeholder engagement, and then testing these models in pilot studies and later hybrid implementation-effectiveness trials. Dr. Ortblads research uses diverse methods across the fields of epidemiology, economics, public policy, psychology, and implementation science.

This position would focus on assisting with the data collection tools, quality checks, and analysis for a cluster-randomized trial testing a model of formalized peer PrEP referral + HIV self-test delivery for PrEP initiation among adolescent girls and young women in Kenya. The position would provide an opportunity work as part of a collaborative, international research team to oversee trial implementation, engage with a data safety and monitoring board, and analyze trial data. Data from this trial could be used for various dissertation aims, following agreement and discussions with team members. The Professional Support Specialist duties will allow participation along the entire research continuum, from study development to dissemination of results.

• Work closely with the research team on the design and data analysis of research studies.
• Help program CommCare, an electronic data collection platform, to collect survey data.
• Help analyze study data, quantitative and/or qualitative.
• Conduct data harmonization and quality control procedures.
• Prepare data dictionaries and datasets for sharing, including international collaborators.
• Create written summaries, figures, and tables of results for use in grant applications, PowerPoint presentations, posters, study reports, and scientific papers.
• Conduct literature reviews.
• Assist in the preparation, editing, formatting, and submission of manuscripts, protocols, and grant applications.
• Maintain participant confidentiality by following all relevant federal, institutional, and study guidelines and research protocols.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree or higher, preferably in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, Metrics & Evaluation, Pharmacy, Global Health, or a related field.
• 0-1 years of related experience.
• Strong data management and data analysis skills.
• Experience using statistical software, like STATA, SAS, or R.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including some background in scientific writing.
• Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a diverse research team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous international experience.
• Previous qualitative data analysis experience.
• Background in electronic database management a plus (CommCare, RedCap).
