About Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital
PGY1 Residency Overview The PGY1 Residency program at IU Health Ball Memorial emphasizes the development of advanced knowledge and application of pharmacotherapeutics in the provision of multi-disciplinary, quality patient care. This program cultivates the skills of practice management and education and the professional attitudes of self-evaluation, self-improvement, and accountability. The successful resident will demonstrate a desire to learn, sincere interest in the profession, and dedication to achieving all outcomes of the residency. IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital is a regional community-based hospital serving the East Central region of Indiana. Its pharmacy services are focused primarily on inpatient; ambulatory care services are being developed. Rotations Each PGY1 resident is required to successfully complete twelve months of rotations. The resident’s rotation preferences will be considered when making and adjusting the rotation schedule. Required rotations cover the following areas of practice: Orientation Adult Medicine Cardiovascular – Adult Critical Care – Adult Medication Safety Drug Information Outpatient Oncology/Anticoagulation Required Longit...udinal Administration Research Project Medication Use Evaluation Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Clinical/Operational Weekends Services Elective Rotations Additional elective month long rotation: Infectious Disease/Antimicrobial Stewardship Cardiac Critical Care Advanced Adult Medicine Other elective opportunities may be coordinated within the IU Health System dependent upon interest/availability. One rotation may be completed at the Academic Health Center in Indianapolis. Residency Completion Residency Requirements Indiana Pharmacist license by September 28 Required rotations in the areas of critical care, administration, adult medicine and cardiology Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Training and Certification Residency Project – presented at Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference Every other weekend staffing – distributive and clinical responsibilities Formal medical staff presentation Elective Experiences Didactic teaching opportunities Precepting Pharm.D. students in a clinical setting Salary and Benefits Competitive Salary Health Benefits Dental Benefits Vision Flexible Spending Accounts – Pretax payment of health and dependent care expenses Paid Time Off – 16 days Travel stipend for one professional meeting of resident’s choice per year Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference expenses paid Free parking How to Apply Requirements: The qualified applicant must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and must be eligible for Indiana licensure.
