Thank you for your interest in WVU Medicine's Pharmacy Residency Program. Our residency has over 30 years of history and has developed into one of the most high-quality programs across the country.

The WVU Medicine Pharmacy Residency Program was started in 1985 by then Residency Coordinator, Art Poremba, and accredited by ASHP in 1987. Since its inception, 127 residents have completed the PGY-1 program.  In addition to the PGY-1 program, WVU Medicine offers five PGY-2 programs including Ambulatory, Cardiology, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Pediatrics. Since the program’s inception, 36 classes have completed the program, consisting of nearly 200 residents. The program continues to gain national exposure, having had residents originally from schools located in nearly half of the 50 states.

Our residency program is designed to build your clinical knowledge base and allow you to grow into an independent practitioner. The flexibility of the programs will allow you to enhance your practice and communication skills while meeting your own professional goals.

Individuals completing the Pharmacy Residency at WVU Medicine will be highly qualified independent providers of pharmaceutical care. The resident will be an integral member of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team, be an educator of healthcare professionals and patients, be able to perform practice-related research, and become a leader in medication safety. The resident will exhibit a commitment to the profession by conducting their daily practice with a distinguished level of maturity and leadership. Residents completing this program will have highly developed skills and abilities making them extremely marketable within their profession.

I believe the residency training program offered by WVU Medicine will prove to be exciting, fulfilling, and most importantly, career enhancing. I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you and to discuss our program further.
