PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available (ASHP ACCREDITATION STANDARD FOR POSTGRADUATE YEAR TWO (PGY2) PHARMACY RESIDENCY PROGRAMS Updated April 2017).
The University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) offers a robust and exciting training environment. Clinical pharmacy specialists and pharmacy residents serve as an integral component of direct patient care in the regions only academic health system. Residents can continue post-graduate training in one of four PGY2 pharmacy residency specialties, including ambulatory care, critical care, hematology/oncology, and internal medicine. Currently, ambulatory care and internal medicine will be conducting preliminary interviews through PPS. Critical care, hematology/oncology, and internal medicine not recruiting external program applicants at this time.
Candidates interested in learning more about our program are encouraged to request an interview via PPS. Messages/requests should include the area of specialty training in which the applicant is interested.
Applicants must have graduated from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy, be eligible for pharmacist licensure in the state of Ohio, and be able to present certificate of completion of a PGY1 residency program at the start of residency. Applications are accepted only through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
