Job Title - Admissions Counselor/Coordinator for Hispanic, Latinx, Chicanx
The Undergraduate Office of Admissions is seeking a highly motivated, focused, and results-oriented Admissions Counselor, who will have special responsibility working with prospective Hispanix, Latinx, and Chicanx (HCL) students and communities. This person will facilitate the enrollment of qualified students from a variety of backgrounds and represent the University of Minnesota to the public, provide exceptional customer service to prospective students and their families, and play a crucial role in shaping the University’s image.
This is a full-time, P&A, non-exempt position. Salary range is $40,000 - $43,000 depending on qualifications. This includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, 22 paid time off days, one personal holiday in addition to the existing 11 University holidays.

JOB DUTIES: â— Serve as contact for prospective students in Minnesota. â— Plan, participate and work with general student recruitment outreach activities on campus. â— Serve as key liaison with high school counselors, independent counselors, and other school officials. â— Present at high school programs, recruitment events, and counselor meetings. â— Recruit and facilitate enrollment of prospective undergraduate students, primarily from Minnesota. â— Provide admissions counseling to prospective students, their parents, and guidance counselors. â— Evaluate academic and other credentials for admission decision and counseling purposes. â— Implement extensive recruitment and relationship-building efforts utilizing written, telephone, and in-person communication to prospective students, applicants, and admitted students. â— Serve as one-stop contact for freshman admissions; provide advising and assistance throughout the admission process to students, family members, and high school counselors. â— Coordinate and deliver on and off-campus information sessions to recruit students to apply and enroll at the University of Minnesota. â— Event planning and management; lead, host, and/or manage targeted recruitment events â— Liaison to key campus partners and student groups such as but not limited to CASA Sol, Mi Gente, and the Department of Chicano & Latino Studies â— Responsible for HCL community outreach and recruitment coordination â— Participate in the execution of the office’s Visits and Events programs â— Undocumented, DACAmented, and mixed status Programs Advocate & Coordinator
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: â— BA/BS with at least two years of relevant experience. â— Must have a valid driver’s license; must be able to travel regionally and nationally for extended periods and work evenings/weekends and some holidays as needed. â— Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. â— Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking experience. â— Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in practice â— Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative. â— Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: â— Preference given to fluent Spanish speaking candidates â— Event planning or project management experience preferred. â— Preference given to candidates with University of Minnesota experience defined broadly such as former student, graduate, employee, or community member of any campus. â— Preference given to candidates with community based organization experience that work with or serve hispanix, Latinx, or chicanx communities â— Preference given to candidates with admissions experience.
