Summary of Position: This position provides reporting to senior management in the Center for Drug Design (CDD). The position is responsible for reporting, managing, and analyzing the entire financial portfolio for CDD. This includes acting as the finance contact between the Center and federal agencies, foundations, industry, collaborators, colleges and other units at the University (College of Pharmacy, SPA, SFR, OVPR, Technology Commercialization). Varied situations require analysis using general precedents and procedures as well as critical thinking. Salary dependent on experience and qualificaitons.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
40% Financial Analysis, Oversight and Management
Provide financial oversight, analysis and management of sponsored and non-sponsored data.
Prepare financial reports and present data to faculty and/or management.
Forecast budgets and expenses.
Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
Serve as effort coordinator within the department.
Review and provide document approval within the department.
30% Financial Reporting
Create consolidated financial statements.
Report both standard and customized monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for management and principal investigators to meet goals and objectives.
Provide information to help in the decision-making process.
25% Budget Proposal Development/Management of Federal and Other Grants/Contracts
Develop budgets and narratives for funding proposals.
Assist in the processing of documents to submit funding proposals.
Monitor projects for adherence to sponsors' requirements.
Work with funding agencies to resolve invoicing discrepancies. Grant administration/projects.
5% Gift Management and External Sales
Monitor and report donations and other funds deposited to the University of Minnesota Foundation, GIP, and/or CEF, ensuring funds are used according to their purpose and are transferred for use as appropriate.
Track and report revenue from all donors and sales/licensing/patent agreements
Working Conditions: The majority of the work in this position is performed in a general office setting. The incumbent works independently and resolves most problems with little assistance from management.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
BA/BS plus at least four years of professional work experience, or a combination related education and experience to equal eight years.
Demonstrated experience in the following areas of finance.
Creating and maintaining finance reports.
Proven ability to work in a deadline driven, fast paced environment.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels within an organization.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel).
Prior experience working directly with faculty in a university setting.
Certified Approver responsibilities.
Experience with federal granting agencies to include budgeting (pre and post award)
