The Pharmacy Director oversees the operations of the CWH Pharmacy Services for Acute Care, HPAC Specialty Clinics, Chemo Infusion Clinics, Professional Retail Pharmacy, ASHP Pharmacy Residency, Home Infusion, and the 340B Program . Current diverse operations and trends are optimized to ensure a vision and strategy for future growth. The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the design, operation, and improvement of the organization’s medication use process with a focus on patient care and safety. This position promotes high levels of satisfaction with patients, providers, and staff through proactively addressing concerns through meaningful measures and interventions.
While work is predominantly at the Central WA Hospital campus, CWH Pharmacy functions also occur on other campuses and locations.
Position Reports To: CWH Hospital Administrator
The ability to work independently and handle stress appropriately; be a change agent in a rapidly transforming healthcare system; set priorities, make critical decisions, and manage a diverse workforce. Required job functions include:
Strategic planning for acute and ambulatory care;
Hospital-based medication use system management
Optimizing centralized and decentralized Pharmacy automation;
Revenue Cycle Management for Pharmaceuticals
HRSA 340B Program Compliance Oversight
Regulatory and accreditation compliance
Planning and Implementing USP 797, 795, and 800 Compliance
ASHP Pharmacy Residency Accreditation
Hospital-Based Electronic Health Record Informatics and Technology
Drug-utilization management, including 340B, specialty drugs;
Supply chain management, including best practices in inventory management;
Work to achieve best practice benchmarks;
Represent CWH Pharmacy Services to North Central Washington service area needs.
Develops vision for the department and executes plans to achieve vision;
Leadership, coaching, and managing Pharmacy Service personnel
Disciplines and terminates employees as required in consultation with the SVP of Ancillary and CWH Administrator;
Conducts regular leadership or managerial staff meetings;
Remains accessible to listen to, converse with, advise and counsel managerial staff in a confidential manner.
Problem solves and addresses issues raised by physicians, employees, and patients;
Recruits, Interviews and hires staff to fill vacated and new positions as needed.
Profit and Loss responsibility for multiple departments, including revenue, expenses and budgeting;
Develops goals and objectives and operational policies and procedures;
Notes process trends, variances, and problem areas and manages to Key Performance Indicators;
Manages the flow of the department to ensure compliance, access, efficiency and patient satisfaction;
Establishes effective strategies for programs and department with the goal of increasing market share;
Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures;
Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals;
Leads and directs the work of others,
May provide consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the /contributor/specialist in the CWH Pharmacy Services.
Supports and promotes a positive image of the department both inside and outside the organization. Contributes to the process of resolving patient complaints and service issues.

Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
Completion of ASHP Postgraduate Residency
Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy and graduate degree in appropriate healthcare business field.
Minimum of 6 years of leadership or management experience in a medium to large healthcare setting.
Internal Candidates: Three years of relevant leadership experience with CHVS Leader certification.
Proficiency within the Microsoft Office suite of software.
Proficiency with hospital electronic medical records.
Knowledge of organization policies, procedures, systems, and objectives.
Knowledge of fiscal management and human resource management techniques.
Knowledge of accounting systems, drug revenue cycle, including insurance billing and collecting
Skill in planning, organizing, and supervising.
Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
Ability to counsel/discipline personnel as requested or as may become necessary.
Ability to delegate authority, responsibility to other staff personnel as deemed necessary to perform their assigned duties.
Ability to handle information in a confidential manner.
Must maintain primary residence in the Confluence Health service area.
Active Licensure in WA State.
Hospital experience strongly preferred.
Advanced Degree (MS, MBA, MHS)
