Summary Working as a member of the Academic Technology team, the Instructional Designer supports student success by collaborating with University faculty and instructional staff to apply best practices in education and use of academic technology. Responsibilities include course planning and development, faculty training and support, as well as development and maintenance of a library of live and on-demand training and support resources. This role requires a high energy individual with a positive outlook, who can prioritize and troubleshoot problems, keep up with changes in approach, and who can be accommodate occasional late or irregular hours.
Assist in the day-to-day management and support of the University's academic technology systems including those for assessment and proctoring, lecture capture and video streaming, audience response and polling, and the learning management system.
Manage assigned course planning and development projects in coordination with SMEs.
Conduct needs assessments, testing, and research to determine best practices in applying academic technology to achieve instructional goals and related approaches to training.
Maintain a library of academic technology support and training materials, in alignment with department strategy for training and technology.
Deliver scheduled or just-in-time training sessions for groups or individuals in support of academic technology strategy or to address immediate support requests.
Provide occasional classroom support to faculty to support instructional or assessment activities.
Assist the Director of Academic Technology in annual planning and budgeting.
Uphold UHSP's Information Technology standards.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications A. Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree in Media, Instructional Design, Education, Interactive Media Design, or related field. Masters degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or Education is preferred.
B. Technical Skills/Abilities:
Experience using a Learning Management System like Moodle to deploy coursework and manage student progression in a face to face or online teaching environment.
Expertise with design and media development tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, TechSmith Camtasia, Panopto, and video editing software.
Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint, and Office 365 including OneDrive and Micrsoft Teams.
Ability to learn and keep pace with changing technologies.
C. Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to work independently to solve problems and schedule tasks in an environment of changing priorities and emergency situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional, and collegial relationships with faculty, management, students, and other department staff.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience creating accurate technical documentation for a non-technical audience.
Ability to move around equipment in tight spaces, and to distinguish between colors.
Must have strong customer service, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Strong personal management skills including time management, organization, and attention to detail. Display pride of ownership, a sense of responsibility and accountability, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to go the extra mile in supporting student success.
Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, and other general physical activity including occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds, and normal visual acuity under standard office conditions.
