Iowa State University Human Resources is seeking qualified candidates for a Human Resources Employee Benefits Consultant who will counsel and advise University and Affiliate employees, pre/post-doctoral associates, retirees, extended family, committees, and departments and colleges regarding benefit options; answer questions and address concerns through phone, email, letters, face-to-face and virtual meetings. This position will develop and facilitate benefit enrollment sessions for new employees and open change education for active employees and retirees; coordinate the processing of new employee enrollment, benefit changes, and to examine operations and service problems associated with these changes; and research and design recommendations to improve benefit programs. Subject matter is highly specialized and requires discretion in the application of Federal, State, University and Insurance policies/procedures and regulations. The position will make decisions on the above listed duties at a higher level of independence and will be responsible for special projects.
The successful candidate will be familiar with human resource policies and benefit administration and state and federal requirements for COBRA, HIPAA, Flexible Spending Account regulations and Retirement plans. Excellent verbal and written skills; the ability to speak to large groups; and the ability to operate a computer, calculator, be proficient in Microsoft Office products.
The position will act as a liaison and advocate to insurance vendors on behalf of employees and participants to optimize outcomes. Investigate issues and resolve problems related to operations and services. Resolve pharmacy vendorâs questions and ensure accurate enrollment in employee benefit programs. Validate eligibility for benefit changes resulting from life events.Â Will also assist with retirement benefits for all retirees; prepare and authorize Medicare Affidavits for employee and/or spouse, and facilitate notification of insurance vendors for billing premiums directly to retiree. Responsible for Humana Part D enrollment for all Medicare retirees. Counsel retirees and spouses during annual Open Change periods, life events that may change their benefits, and problem solve any issues they may have. Assist new hires with enrollment process, and counseling on supplemental retirement forms.
