University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program
The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program is designed to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. The residency program provides residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy. Residents who successfully complete the residency program should possess competencies that qualify them for a clinical pharmacist and/or faculty position and prepare them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in ambulatory care. A graduate from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program of the will have the knowledge and skills of a competent practitioner in both the community and academic settings. Moreover, graduates will be able to establish and maintain their own innovative pharmacy practice. Thus, they will have the clinical competence and skills to counsel, educate, and evaluate patients, teach students, present in different forums, provide medication information, and Medication Therapy Management (MTM)/Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM) programs. Graduates will also have the skills necessary to apply for academic positions at an accredited school of pharmacy. The educational goals of the program include competence in community and clinical practice, the ability to implement and maintain MTM/CMM programs, educating and precepting Doctor of Pharmacy students, and developing leadership skills by implementing community wellness, immunization, and disease prevention programs.
