Pharmacy works towards this mission by providing excellent care to all patients with the goal of achieving the best medication-related outcomes possible. PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. Residents obtain experience in a wide variety of practice settings under the guidance of experienced and caring preceptors. Monthly rotations include core rotations along with a wide variety of elective options allowing the resident to explore individual interests. Residents gain valuable experience through the design and execution of their residency research project, longitudinal committee and leadership activities, staffing, drug information activities. Residents may participate in a teaching certificate program through Ohio Northern University as well as teach and mentor pharmacy students, medical students and residents and other healthcare professionals during the residency. Our educational philosophy is residents learn more from doing than from seeing or hearing. This program is designed to facilitate growth in clinical practice and will focus on communication, critical assessment, teaching, and leadership in team-based care and quality improvement projects.
