The purpose of this program is to develop pharmacists’ skills in disease state management, pharmacy operations, and quality improvement. Under expert guidance, our residents will build foundational clinical skills in a variety of settings which may include Primary Care, Anticoagulation, Mental Health, Substance Abuse treatment, and Diabetes Clinic settings. Upon completion, residents will be qualified for primary care practice or prepared for PGY-2 training to specialize further. Graduates of the program will be prepared to excel in Primary Care, Patient Safety, Formulary Management, Pharmacy Operations, and Leadership. This program aims to develop well-rounded, thoughtful, and proficient pharmacists who are equipped for life-long learning and success.
Located in the Pacific Northwest outside of Medford, Oregon, in the Rogue Valley, VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics (VA SORCC) is comprised of both an outpatient primary care facility and rehabilitation treatment center for Veterans covering thousands of miles from Northern California to the Klamath Falls area. Alongside the main facility in White City, OR, VA SORCC has two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) located in Grants Pass, OR and Klamath Falls, OR. These sites afford patient access to outpatient primary care for Veterans in these nearby areas.
The rehabilitation center is currently allotted for a census of 250 patients and focuses on providing services including vocational rehab, assistance in homelessness, and substance abuse treatment. Care services on-site include specialties in optometry, dental, radiology, dermatology, podiatry, diabetes health clinic, audiology, and many more.
VA SORCC is a short drive from Crater Lake and the Oregon Coast. In nearby historic Jacksonville, you can catch a concert at the Britt Music and Arts Festival. The Rogue Valley provides ample opportunities to take in the scenery, whether you’re seated on the patio of a local restaurant or hiking Mt. Ashland. With minimal precipitation and snowfall, the climate is mild (contrary to our Pacific Northwest neighbors), with an average annual temperature around 68° F. Southern Oregon is rich with a diverse landscape, varied culture, and deep heritage. Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventure, historical exploration, cultural thrills, or culinary delights, you can find it in Oregon.

About VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics
The Department of Veterans Affairs Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics (VA SORCC) PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency is an exciting new program; our first Pharmacy Resident Class was July 2019 – June 2020. For many years, our staff have trained Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Students, and Pharmacy Residents from other programs. We leverage that experience into a unique clinical education program with ample opportunity for exposure in Ambulatory Care and Mental Health. Utilizing tele-medicine to provide patient care has been an additional strategy we have embraced this year. We are proud to offer excellent work-life balance that blends practical patient care experience, advanced training in disease state management, and pharmacy operations with a holistic training philosophy. We are currently in the candidate status for ASHP Accreditation as our survey was this summer (results to be posted Spring 2021 for accreditation).
