Pharmacy Informatics PGY2 Residency
The Ohio State University Pharmacy Residency Programs-PGY2 Booth 3-Showcase
PURPOSEPGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in that practice area (when board certification for the practice area exists). The purpose of the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center’s PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency is to equip a clinically trained pharmacist with the knowledge and skills to implement, support and maintain clinical information systems and automation used in one or more steps of the medication use process. The residency graduate will be capable of independently and collaboratively completing short- and long-term projects. The graduate will expertly represent clinical and automation requirements from a pharmacist’s perspective to technical, clinical, and administrative stakeholders for a given technology. The residency experience will provide a firm foundation for the graduate to pursue a leadership role in health care informatics as a long term goal. KEY ROTATIONS/EXPERIENCESThe PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center combines clinical, administrative, and project management experiences in the area of pharmacy informatics. The residency provides the essential skills and knowledge to contribute to a safe and efficient medication use process through the implementation of innovative technologies and application of sound pharmacy informatics principles. The resident becomes a core member of the Pharmacy Informatics team through structured rotation experiences and projects. The resident will be encouraged to participate freely and seek opportunities in their areas of interest. Core Learning Experiences:
The resident will also gather experience both leading and working on committees, as well as preparing and delivering one didactic lecture at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. The resident will also prepare and present at least one presentation to clinical pharmacy practitioners during their residency. In addition, there will be one major longitudinal research project for which the Pharmacy Informatics resident will be responsible for all aspects of the research project. This project will be presented at the Great Lakes Pharmacy Residency Conference and potentially at Epic’s Spring Pharmacy Advisory Council. The resident will also have the opportunity to attend ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. At the conclusion of the program, the resident will be prepared to assume central roles in pharmacy leadership, information technology management and interdisciplinary teams. Knowledge and experience gained during the residency is designed to be portable and broadly applicable regardless of technology platform.
