Children’s - Minnesota is one of the largest pediatric health systems in the United States and the only health system in Minnesota to provide care exclusively to children. An independent and not-for-profit system since 1924, Children’s serves kids throughout the Upper Midwest at two free-standing hospitals (Mpls and St. Paul), 12 primary and specialty-care clinics and six rehabilitation sites. Children's currently offers ASHP accredited residencies for 3 PGY1 residents and 1 PGY2 pharmacogenomics resident (accreditation pending). Children’s Minnesota is a multi-site PGY1 program with 2 positions at the Minneapolis campus: NMS #157813, and one resident at the St. Paul campus: NMS #157821. The PGY1 pharmacy practice residency is designed to provide the PGY1 resident with a broad experience in pediatrics. The PGY1 resident will gain clinical experience in required settings including: pediatric medicine, PICU, NICU and pharmacy practice management. The PGY1 resident may have approximately 20 weeks for choosing elective learning experiences from either campus to meet their interests. In the past, residents have chosen to pursue elective learning experiences in areas including: cardiovascular intensive care, pharmacogenomics, oncology, medication therapy management, epilepsy, and emergency medicine. Other electives may be available depending on the resident's area of interests. The PGY1 resident shall complete a teaching certificate program and will provide four ACPE CE programs during the year. The PGY1 resident shall also gain experience with student preceptorship and didactic instruction to pharmacy students at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy.
