About Bayhealth PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and Bayhealth PGY1 Community-based Residency Program
The Bayhealth PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is a one-year training program primarily in an inpatient healthcare practice setting. Through guided practice, the PGY1 resident will have the opportunity to develop skills, competencies and professional expertise in a hospital pharmacy. The program is customized to meet the needs and interests of the resident, providing the foundation for practice in multiple roles within the healthcare system. The resident will be an integral part of the healthcare system with exposure to a variety of clinical experiences and a comprehensive understanding of the medication use system within the hospital.
In order to provide training in all aspects of contemporary pharmacy practice, the resident will complete organized learning experiences in the following practice areas: infectious disease, internal medicine/nutrition, cardiology, critical care, oncology, ambulatory care, and rehabilitation medicine. Bayhealth started its PGY1 residency program in 2003. The program received ASHP accreditation in March 2005 and was re-accredited most recently in 2017.
The Bayhealth PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program is a one-year training program in a ...diverse community practice setting. The residency program focuses on the development of skills necessary to practice at a high level in a community pharmacy environment. The program is designed based on the belief that the better community care providers are those who clearly understand what patients experience throughout the continuum of care, through clinic, acute care and traditional care environments. Residents will participate in all aspects of our comprehensive community service. The program is designed to provide exposure to general and specialty community care experiences, with experiences, MTM, DME and disease-based clinics.
As a vital member of the healthcare team, the resident will be offered the opportunity to enhance his/her knowledge, attitude and skills needed to evaluate drug therapy for optimal client outcomes, and will be able to demonstrate effective organizational and integrative skills. The resident will gain skills that assist in developing cost-effective, quality clinical services, while acquiring the foundation skills needed to become an effective leader. The program will be developed with every effort to meet the resident’s interests and career goals.
