NorthShore University HealthSystem PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program
Overview NorthShore University HealthSystem is a private, not-for-profit community teaching hospital system based in Evanston, Illinois. The corporation consists of four hospitals - Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Highland Park Hospital, and Skokie Hospital; a 900 member Medical Group, a Home Services Division, and a Research Institute. The hospitals of NorthShore University HealthSystem rank among the Top 100 Hospitals and the Top 15 major teaching hospitals nationally. With the full implementation of electronic medical record, NorthShore is recognized as one of the "Most Wired Hospitals" in the country. Education of health care professionals is an important component of our mission. NorthShore currently offers 12 positions in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program, 3 positions in the PGY1 Community Residency program, and 1 position each in the PGY2 Oncology, PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics, and PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency Programs. All residents have opportunities to develop and reinforce clinical, practice management, and precepting skills to advance as well rounded practitioners.
Outpatient Pharmacy Department and Ambulatory Care Services NorthShore University HealthSystem Outpatient Pharmacy Department is comprised of three hospital outpatient pharmacies located in Evanston, Glenbrook, and Skokie Hospitals. In addition, the outpatient pharmacy department has oncology specialty pharmacies at Evanston, Glenbrook, and Highland Park Hospitals. NorthShore operates 3 pharmacist-managed Anticoagulation clinics at Skokie, Glenbrook, and Highland Park Hospitals. In addition, ambulatory pharmacists manage patients in a heart failure clinic at Skokie Hospital. Ambulatory pharmacists collaborate with health care teams in the NorthShore Comprehensive Care Center, general medicine clinic, Hepatitis C clinic, and Kellogg Cancer Center. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams at the health system is emphasized in order to improve patient outcomes.
Residency Program The NorthShore Community Pharmacy Residency Program was established in 2007 to develop and implement advanced patient care services in the outpatient hospital pharmacies. The NorthShore Community Pharmacy Residency Program was granted full ASHP accreditation in 2009. The Community Pharmacy Residency Program is recruiting for 3 (three) positions.

Service Commitment The resident is expected to staff as a community pharmacist once a week and every other weekend. The resident will also have 2-3 staffing weeks per year. The resident will staff in various pharmacy locations and is expected to work closely with other health care professionals and patients.
Duration, Salary, and Benefits The residency begins on July 1st and lasts for 12 months. Annual salary is competitive with other programs. Benefits include healthcare coverage, prescription coverage, dental, vacation, sick time, Tax Deferred Annuity and continuing education funding.
