St. Joseph Mercy Oakland is now offering a PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency program. With our highly qualified preceptors and unique patient population in a community-based teaching hospital, SJMO is a premier setting for PGY2 residents to gain real-life training and experience.
PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
The purpose of the PGY2 pharmacy residency in critical care is to provide an experience which leads to the development of expert knowledge and skills in critical care pharmacy practice. The PGY2 pharmacy residency will prepare the resident for job opportunities in the following areas:
Critical Care Pharmacist in hospital setting
Clinical Pharmacy Specialist
Non-Tenure Track College of Pharmacy Faculty
The PGY2 program structure consists of twelve one-month rotations:
Be a graduate from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy
Successfully complete an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Residency
Be eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan
Register for the ASHP Matching Service with an NMS applicant number
