Under general supervision, the Staff Research Associate III is responsible for all aspects of the lab, including but not limited to lab personnel, equipment, supplies, and documentation needed to maintain the daily operations of the lab. Oversee laboratory safety and ensure that the lab remains in compliance with all regulatory and safety standards. Keep careful records of laboratory inventory and lab personnel training. Train lab personnel in laboratory techniques and safety rules, providing oversight, development, and work direction to lower level researchers.
The Staff Research Associate will also be responsible for revising manuscripts and grant proposals and ordering/restocking lab supplies. In addition, the Staff Research Associate will use knowledge, skills and experience in chemical synthesis to work independently or in collaboration with researchers and provide support in research projects and will make contributions pertaining to research studies according to the goals of the research project.
Advanced theoretical knowledge in the area of organic chemistry typically acquired with a Bachelor's Degree in science; or or equivalent combination of experience and education. Ability to make advanced contributions to research projects at a conceptual level. Master's preferred.
Proven ability to research, design and implement original, effective strategies for coordinating and managing projects on a daily basis. Experience in making significant contributions to research designs of various ongoing research projects.
Advanced experience in chemical reaction design, multi-step synthesis, and structural confirmation.
Demonstrated experience performing standard and reverse phase purification.
Demonstrated experience in additional purification techniques, including but not limited to recrystallization, trituration, and preparative HPLC.
Demonstrated ability to multitask efficiently, making significant contribution to ongoing research projects.
Proficient knowledge and technical expertise in using Excel, Power Point, and Word.
Strong skills and experience in writing and editing material for grants, reports, and peer-reviewed scholarly publications.
Proven experience with laboratory management duties and training research staff in a variety of research procedures.
Ability to adhere to established UCSD guidelines for safety and environmental issues.
Skills in supervising staff and trainees providing work direction and maintaining an efficient research team.
