Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of an Associate's degree, two (2) years of full-time experience working in a health education/advocacy, case management, patient care role and/or customer service experience. Four (4) years of full-time experience working in a healthcare setting with direct patient/client contact and in a role dealing with patient/client issues. Knowledge of medical terminology. Experience with medical charts. Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.
Two (2) years of full-time experience working in a medical office setting. Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience. Experience with the World Trade Center Program policies and procedures.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Stony Brook WTC Health Program offers comprehensive, integrative healthcare of 9/11-related illnesses for WTC disaster responders. Integral to our mission of patient-centered care is an enduring support community, advocacy for our 9/11 responders, and cutting edge research efforts.
The Member Services Specialist is responsible for navigating program services for members including: providing intake and outtake at clinical visits, collecting research data, consenting members, scheduling appointments, coordinating with case management and other disciplines such as pharmacy, DME, and nutrition, among others.
This position requires the ability to work independently within strict timelines and parameters. The incumbent must have excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. The incumbent must be able to work independently with good judgement and a strong sense of responsibility and work ethic. The incumbent must be willing to work and travel regularly between our Mineola and Commack clinics. The Member Services Specialist will perform the following duties:
Member Services Support
Provide intake and outtake at clinical visits, including collecting research data, consenting members, scheduling follow-up appointments and answering members questions and educating on Program benefits.
Outreach via phone, patient portal and other approved methods to provide:
Member education and benefits education
Navigation of Member Services by coordinating internally among a variety of clinical and member service staff and acting as the point person for the member(s).
Deal with difficult sub-populations and motivate to make annual appointments; deal with member issues and complaints.
Support case management of members by ensuring the members follow through with referrals, paperwork, consents and other tasks important to their care.
Support other disciplines by ensuring coordination of benefits such as pharmacy, nutrition, DME.
Track and record interactions with members in database and ensure goals are met with regard to caseload and outreach to members.
Assist in the development of educational and program materials for our members.
Participate in group education sessions and community events in the evenings and weekends as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Occasional Evenings and Saturdays will be required.
