The School of Pharmacy has an outstanding opportunity for an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience Program Manager. This individual manages operations for the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) experiential education program in the Office of Professional Pharmacy Education (OPPE). Responsibilities for this position include coordination of student off-site experiential learning placements for APPE experiences, collaboration with program faculty to provide strategic leadership for APPE program development, primary point of engagement with APPE student and site preceptor stakeholders, relationship management and strengthening with volunteer professional practice site partners, and support of preceptor and site development program areas related to APPE. This individual reports to the Assistant Dean for Experiential Education and Student Professional Development, and works closely with the experiential education faculty, the Director of Assessment & Accreditation, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, and the Associate Dean for Professional Pharmacy Education.
Core competencies for this position include professionalism; leadership; project/program management; partnership/relationship development; excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills; and proficient technical and analytical skills. The position requires the ability to effectively manage multiple complex programs and several competing priorities, using independent judgment and decision making.
Given its roles in stakeholder relationships, student advising, and operations management, this position has a direct impact on the success and reputation of the School of Pharmacy and its programs. The success of the PharmD program will enhance the School’s ability to recruit, regionally and nationally, top students and faculty from diverse backgrounds/experiences, further benefiting the University’s reputation.
Program Oversight and Management •Oversee the development, management, and implementation of policies and procedures related to the APPE experiential education program, as well as related interprofessional education, preceptor development, and site development in coordination with program faculty •Manage program operations for APPE experiential education •Oversee the coordination of the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences, including site placement, resolution of student and preceptor concerns, site changes, and documentation
Student Support •Counsel and advise students on rotation site selection, career pathway planning, and issues arising during clinical rotations •Monitor student records and progress in APPEs, following up with students and preceptors regarding performance questions as appropriate and alerting faculty or the Assistant Dean for Experiential Education and Student Professional Development to issues requiring follow up •Coordinate with Student Services on program completion process, student progress issues, crisis situations, and other student concerns •Manage the process of monitoring student records for completion of all experiential education requirements and generating of letters of completion to be sent to state Boards of Pharmacy •Work with faculty leadership to identify students for award recognition
Partner Relationships •Coordinate negotiation of affiliation agreement terms and resolution of related issues, working directly with the Office of the Attorney General, faculty leadership, and representatives of clinical placement sites •Coordinate with the Dean’s Office regarding the clinical and affiliate faculty appointment, renewal, and promotion process on behalf of preceptors •Manage the site affiliation agreement process and oversee related tasks including initiating, tracking, updating, and problem solving; oversee student and School compliance with affiliation agreements •Represent the Office of Professional Pharmacy Education and the School of Pharmacy to internal and external stakeholders through various means including service on committees, visits to clinical rotation sites, and active participation in the Northwest Pharmacy Experiential Consortium •Monitor APPE site and preceptor evaluations to identify trends or issues that should be addressed by the program; lead the process of annual reviews for APPE experiential sites and preceptors and ensure appropriate follow up is completed •Initiate, promote and maintain relationships with preceptors, clinical and affiliate faculty, and other external stakeholders on behalf of the School •Work with faculty leadership to identify preceptors for award recognition •Assist with the annual site appreciation process; allocate and process site appreciation payments based on site responses and available resources
General Operations •Make adjustments and recommendations for APPE program changes based on student and preceptor feedback and other program-related data; implement changes as needed •Participate in the planning for and assist with staffing OPPE events related to APPE learning such as career development events, APPE preceptor development retreats, and programming involving students, faculty, staff, and external partner organizations, many of which also serve as APPE clinical rotation sites.

Qualifications: •Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree, current pharmacist licensure and experience as a pharmacist preceptor •Two to three years of related experience •Demonstrated excellence in managing multiple/complex programs and projects •Strong teamwork orientation and focus; demonstrated experience in participating in or leading teams •Demonstrated ability to think creatively, solve problems efficiently, and adapt to an ever-changing environment
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Desired Qualifications: •Experience in or understanding of experiential education, particularly in the area of pharmacy training •Experience in or understanding of higher education processes and programs •Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy as a profession and career pathways available to students and new graduates •Experience using FileMaker Pro or other database applications, Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, etc.), Google Docs or other cloud-based applications •Experience working with in-house counsel to review and negotiate contracts or agreements with external parties •Knowledge of University of Washington systems (e.g. Student Data Base) or similar products
