This position functions in a support capacity for the ambulatory service lines in the optimization of pharmacy operations, including, but not limited to, the areas of pharmaceutical purchasing, formulary management, sample medication management, clinic-administered medication charge practices, waste management, and controlled substance audit practices. Serves as a resource to physicians, clinic administration and staff in interpreting medication related policies. Independently conducts on-site assessments to ensure optimal medication handling practices in the ambulatory environment and ascertain alignment with internal policies and external standards, rules and regulations. Documents findings, prepares timely audit reports, and presents to clinic leadership. Reviews historical audit trending and makes recommendations to support development of facility plans of correction. This position works with operations to implement policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
Maintains full knowledge of clinical techniques, software applications, or skilled trade. Demonstrates understanding of department knowledge and resources. Documents according to standards set by the department and regulatory agencies.
Uses prior experience, diversified procedures and general instructions and procedures to solve a variety of problems. Chooses best alternative from group of known possibilities.
Responds to standard requests from internal and/or external customers. Interacts primarily with department personnel, cross-department personnel, internal and/or external customers, patients and physicians.
Uses discretion to prioritize assigned tasks and duties based on changes in workflow or other immediate situations. Uses independent decision making based on technical knowledge and department standards.
Completion of a technical certificate program
Requires pharmacy technician licensure in the state of practice (where applicable). Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification required.Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy and be able to travel.
Moderate experience, typically gained through 2-4 years relevant work experience OR 12 18 months in an educational program.Must demonstrate 2 years of hospital and/or retail pharmacy experience or in depth knowledge of pharmacy operations. Must possess good organizational, problem solving and computer skills. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, and Microsoft applications.
Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills. Familiarity with pharmacy operations and regulatory compliance. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
